NTS radio is a programme I specifically adore as it is designed to introduce a wide range of music to the general public, with a focus on artists with a singular perspective. I feel that is a response to many radio programs that seem to regurgitate popular music, and that usually do not feature hosts who are necessarily paying attention to delivering boundary-pushing art to the public. This is unfortunate as I believe this type of exposure benefits all. NTS radio always consists of only two shows playing at all times, meaning that whoever is featured during the allotted time has the audience’s attention fully focused on their voice. I appreciate that this gives a sense of weight to each artist hosted, and forces the audience to engage with things they might otherwise reject due to NTS’s outstanding reputation. Overall I belive this format is most beneficial for the culture of music, as it relies much more on word of mouth rather than superficial hierarchies within the industry. I hope other radio shows follow suit in giving a platform to those who deserve it.
