CONTROL.INFANTRY.NOISE

CONTROL

Although an abstract notion containing a multitude of applications, the term “control” is integral to my practice. How do we use sound/music to take control of our lives and break free from the control of others? How can performance art allow us to simultaneously give up and take control of a situation? And how do we as musicians/sound artists use our practice to control and alter our inner landscape? These are all questions I ask myself every day, and I can’t say I have yet to find any answers. Just more questions.

INFANTRY

It may seem strange to think of my creative peers as infantry. However, in a time where the standardized culture of music/listening is decided not by the artists, but by corporations/the endless greed of post-capitalist machines then the comparison becomes apt. We are all on the frontlines fighting for the freedom of expression of ourselves and those who will come after. Infantry is the first line of offense in battle.

NOISE

Noise personally represents the presence of disorder and irrationality. As a culmination of disorganized layers of sound, it acts as both a dominating/liberating force within the psychological/emotional realm of the soundscape, track, or recording. It is an important aspect of my practice as it brings a sense of visceral physicality that I feel as a listener, and that I wish to express/share as an artist.
